Color is the touch of the Eye -Ohran Pamuk

One of the ways in which I would entertain myself as a child was to look for forms or faces in everyday objects and out in nature. From my observations, I would find faces in wallpaper, the human figure in the trunk of a tree, and even see caricature-like images in the patterns of the floor. I looked to these images through the eyes of fantasy creating characters that offered delight and amusement. Then, too, escaping through cartoons brought me into a world where color and form ultimately coincided with a narrative.

These ideologies have migrated from my childhood into the images I now create. The formal elements have been created for and are plucked from significant periods in my life. The images or objects I’ve appropriated from the street or my environment have been deconstructed and rebuilt. I’ve extracted and given meaning to these forms, combining and arranging them in such a way that they construct a mild narrative, one of memory, perception and observation. Through my work, I look to ultimately display a tension between form, perception, and between the internal and external, where fantasy and reality collide.
